TARA FOUNDATION

YOGA TRAINERS’ TRAINING BY MAYI

TARA Foundation provides B40 women an opportunity to earn income by collaborating with MAYI to train them to become Yoga instructors.

Stories bring facts to life, make the abstract concrete and, through meaning making, walk the listener through the mind of the scientist or mathematician (Ellis, 2005) to understand the value and application of such concepts. Wells (1986) argued that storytelling is a fundamental approach of meaning making. Community participation helps youth become empathetic citizens who could potentially continue similar work when they become adults. Additionally, youth who give back to their communities develop leadership skills, learn the importance of helping, and gain work experiences.

Benefits of storytelling in early childhood education includes :

  • Improved language skills
  • Heightened memory
  • Fosters imaginative, creative thinking and cognitive skills. …
  • Encourages enthusiasm for learning, writing and reading. …
  • Develops cultural and moral understanding.
  • Better communication skills
  • Increases curiosity and imagination. …
  • Emphasizes focus and social skills.

We at TARA strongly believe that students who come from a financially-stable family, will be better-equipped with whatever needed to do better in the academics. With that being said, it is important for parents to grab every opportunity there is out there, for them to generate income for the welfare of their families.

TARA collaborated with Malaysia’s Association of Yoga Instructors (MAYI) and organized weekly training sessions for single mothers and working female adults in the B40 community, to skill these group of people and give them the opportunity to earn a side income, by training people on Yoga. These training sessions also came with a make-up workshop to train adults from the same community on becoming beauticians.

At the end of each training sessions, participants said it was not only refreshing to have learnt something beneficial after a long week of work and hustle, but it also boosted their self-esteem to know that they are in a position to pass on these knowledge to another person. Being able to play the role of a teacher to another person, makes them feel important, and it make them feel proud of themselves.
