Our Roots

Tara Foundation was incorporated on 10th January 2002. We began as a home dedicated to orphaned children. Initially located at Kampung Kasipillai, Jalan Ipoh, the home provided shelter, education, healthcare, and emotional support to 45 children.

The Evolution (2019)

In 2019, Tara Foundation transitioned into a free tuition center with a broader and more ambitious aim: to help as many B40 families as possible escape the vicious cycle of generational poverty.

The Cycle of Poverty

The cycle of poverty is a self-perpetuating pattern where families remain trapped in poverty for at least two generations due to a combination of economic, social, and psychological barriers.

During the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, while distributing food aid, we observed an alarming rate of school dropouts among young children. While some dropped out to provide financial support, most left due to poor academic stability caused by a lack of early education.

"The lack of early education—such as poor reading, writing, and counting skills—becomes a stumbling block. This prevents access to higher-paying jobs, trapping them in a vicious, self-perpetuating cycle." - Dato' Pradip, Founder & CEO of Tara Foundation
MISSION: ZERO DROPOUTS

We focus on developing and sustaining the formal education of children from B40 communities across Malaysia by catering to their unique learning needs via FREE after-school classes.

Focus on B40

We dedicate our resources specifically to the B40 community to ensure help goes where it is needed most.

Early Education

We tackle the root cause by strengthening foundational skills in reading, writing, and counting.

Accessibility

We go to them instead of expecting them to come to us, removing transportation barriers.

Proposed Programme: Free After-School Tuition

Our ongoing programme operates at all our centers, using level-based education methodologies rather than chronological age grouping.

Academic Classes

We conduct individual placement tests to identify unique learning needs. Students are placed and nurtured according to their proficiency to ensure they build a strong foundation for their academic journey.

Enrichment (Non-Academic)

Includes sports, physical activities, and recreational sessions to foster discipline, leadership, and teamwork. We also offer motivational talks and arts for holistic development.

Our Beneficiaries

We usually recruit our students at targeted PPR flats or schools located within B40 communities. Our centers are deliberately located within walking distance of nearby PPRs to encourage attendance and student engagement. As part of our registration process, we require parents to disclose their household income to ensure help reaches those who need it most.
